Core operating principles

Ember Connect’s development was guided by simple, yet powerful core principles. These principles will continue to guide our operations as we strive to elevate our community of women.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership

Our board is made up of six amazing women and our operations are driven by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women.

A strengths-based approach

Ember Connect empowers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to steer conversations and access connections and culturally responsive development opportunities that enhance our economic independence, representation and capacity.

Voice, advocacy & co-design

Historically, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have been subject to policies, programs and decision making with little or no involvement. Ember Connect will ensure that our voice, individually and collectively, is expressed and heard.

Collaborate, not compete

Rather than try to replicate or replace the work of other organisations in this space, Ember Connect aims to fill some gaps and build a better system for our women. We actively try to connect and partner with like-minded organisations to be effective, efficient and to multiply our impact.

Sustainability

We are working with our partners to build a sustainable business model so Ember Connect can have an impact today and into the future. We will manage our resources responsibility and seek to build and maintain a best practice operating model.

Impact

We’re embedding a robust monitoring and evaluation ethos into our model so we can assess our impact, learn, and adapt to be as effective and efficient as possible.

Ember Connect wishes to acknowledge the many Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and we honour their deep continuing connection to land, sky, waterways and community.

We pay our respects to our Elders past, present and emerging who illuminate our journey to truth-telling, culture and conservation, which remains stronger than ever.
