At Ember Connect, we are building Australia’s largest community of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. This will put us in a unique position to advocate and contribute to critical research and policy development that impacts our women.
Our current research project
Empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women & Girls… Changing Communities
Partners: University of Tasmania, Curtin University, The Batchelor Institute, and Ember Connect
Timeframe: Three years (2023-2025)
Overview:
This project will develop a National Framework that supports the education and advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls and acknowledges the cultural contributions of women in providing culturally safe spaces for life changing educational/development opportunities.
Through an analysis and documentation of best practice programs, focusing on the employment/education of Aboriginal women/girls, we will model success. The fundamental question around the importance of culturally safe programs that privilege First Nations worldviews will be asked alongside a gender specific approach to best practice.
