Associate Professor Sadie Heckenberg joins Ember Connect board

Ember Connect is pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Sadie Heckenberg to its board.

A Wiradjuri woman, Sadie is an accomplished academic who has recently joined the University of Tasmania as their Academic Director (Aboriginal Engagement).  Prior to that Sadie was the Academic Director (Indigenous Research) and a Senior Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research Fellow within the Moondani Toombadool Centre at Swinburne University of Technology. Sadie is the President of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Higher Education Consortium and sits on the Universities Accord Ministerial Reference Group and the Australian Research Council’s College of Experts.

Sadie also sits on the board of the Black Duck Group, on the Universities Australia DVC Corporate Committee, and she previously held a ministerial appointment on the Higher Education Standards Panel (2018-2021).  Sadie is currently the Lead Chief Investigator for the Australian Research Council’s Linkage Project: Empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Girls, Changing Communities.

Ember Connect’s Chair, Eve Howell, noted that Sadie’s appointment adds to the diverse skillset of the board and strengthens the charity’s knowledge and networks.

“Sadie’s drive and passion for the elevation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women is complemented by her significant research and we’re excited by the opportunity to tap into her extensive knowledge and networks as we develop our charity”, Ms Howell said.

Ember Connect wishes to acknowledge the many Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and we honour their deep continuing connection to land, sky, waterways and community.

We pay our respects to our Elders past, present and emerging who illuminate our journey to truth-telling, culture and conservation, which remains stronger than ever.
